International Partnerships

First, I must apologize for the delay since the last post.  Approximately 4-5 weeks ago I broke my femur close to my hip when my bicycle hit some sand or gravel and slid out from under me.  Since then I have been a living experiment for a lengthy steel rod being inserted in my femur and the attendant rehabilitation issues associated therewith.  Enough about me.

I just enjoyed reading a post by Kris Olds (GlobalHigherEd) about Internation Partnerships – A Legal Guide for UK Universities.  This Guide is presently only available for the next year to UK university folks from a password protected website.  Kris provides a bit of summary information about the Guide and closes with comments that he thinks that reports such as this Guide should be more openly published.  He notes that he received a copy from the UK Higher Education International Unit and therefore his comments should not be considered a “whinge” to get a copy.  However, our repetition of his suggestions for more open publishing of the Guide can be thought of as the “whinge” of KnowledgeEconomy.com for our own copy.  Certainly the KnowledgeEconomy can benefit from greater understanding and use of best practices in developing its own international partnerships.  A passcode may be sent to “info at” this website.

Another interesting article just read is about Bill Gates and his efforts to improve access to physics lessons given by Richard Feynman years ago.  I probably will get to review the lessons this weekend, but having read one of Feynman’s books years ago I know they will be fabulous and I know why Bill Gates has gone to the trouble to make them generally available to all.  I certainly hope that this and the other many similar efforts Bill Gates is persuing will be successful in inspiring more young people to see the beauty in scientific, mathematic and related fields.
