Having recently visited Helsinki, Finland, I am not surprised to see that the Helsinki School of Economics, the University of Art and Design Helsinki and the Helsinki University of Technology have merged to form Aalto University. It is reported that while they were going through this process the working name for the new school was “Innovation University” – and why not! They are combining design, tech and business schools and the result should be a tremendous increase in the innovative output of the group. This looks like a wise use of their limited resources. As a small country of about 5 million people, Finland understands their need to be efficient with their education infrastructure.
